What to Expect at a Sunday Service

We recognize that it can be a bit intimidating coming into a church service for the very first time. We thought it might be helpful to give you a bit of a heads up on what to expect.

First, you will notice our music. The first 25-30 minutes of the service are spent in singing songs. But, it's not just singing songs, it is kind of like a prayer meeting with songs. In between songs, opportunities to respond to the song in prayer or thanksgiving are often provided.

The music is contemporary in style. You will also observe people clapping their hands, raising their hands and sometimes kneeling. These are Biblical expressions of worship to God. We don't expect you to know the songs, so the words are projected in the front of the church. If you don't know the tune, just listen and join in when you are ready.

During the music portion of the service, there is a prayer team at the back of the auditorium. Anyone is free to go to the back and receive prayer privately with one of the prayer team members. You don't need to wait for specific invitation by the worship leader. At any point during the music portion of the service, you can go to the back and receive prayer. Each prayer team member has a name badge indicating that he or she is part of the prayer team.

Following the music, there is a brief period of time when people will say hello to each other. Next in the morning schedule is typically the message. This is a time when a Bible verse or topic is tackled by the pastor. To help people interact with the material, a hand out is usually provided, a powerpoint presentation is utilized and video or music clips are often used to bring the ideas to life.

At the end of the service, time is given for announcements. This is also when we take up the offering. It you are a visitor, please don't feel obligated to put money into the offering. You are our guest. Those who consider BHCC their home church contribute to the effort of the church and the offering time is simply how we collect that money.

The most often asked question is: What do I wear? At BHCC you will be comfortable from jeans to suits, dresses to shorts. We provide a very comfortable setting that focuses on people and not appearance.
